Bruce Dudley Payne died peacefully in his home on December 9th in Norman at the age of 71.
Bruce is survived by his wife of 35 years, Shari Payne; children, Carrie and Jason Kieschnick, Shelley and Brent Crisp, Christy Payne and Zach Calkins, Kristin Barr, CB and Cass Payne; siblings, Patti Hatley; and grandchildren, Jess Tarrant, Ashley and Jordan Wallace, and Zebulin Bruce Payne.
Bruce was born on March 7th 1944 in Long Beach, California to Dudley and Lois Payne. He graduated from Moore High School in 1962. After a short stint at Murray State in Tishomingo he took up crop farming in Cleveland County. He loved working the land and took pride in ‘feeding the people’ by raising wheat, soybeans and corn.
Bruce never met a stranger, always willing to help someone in need, he touched many people with his generous heart and loving nature. He took pleasure in his ability to start a conversation with anyone and brighten their day with his wit or kind words.
He enjoyed traveling with his wife and family to the beach or the mountains.. They loved to RV and ATV. Bruce was an adventurous spirit who loved trying different things and often traveled to destinations unknown.
He will be missed daily for his humor, kindness and wisdom. We believe that Bruce was a rock star trapped in a farmer’s body.
