Shyam Dev Patwardhan, Ph.D., 36, of Norman passed away on December 23, 2013. Shyam was born in Norman, Oklahoma on August 19, 1977; he grew up and lived all his life in Norman.
Shyam received his Ph.D. degree in Philosophy from the University of Oklahoma in May 2013. Shyam was in process of finalizing many scholarly articles and searching for a tenured track assistant professorship before his death. Shyam was an enthusiastic and charismatic teacher based upon testimonials from his students at the University of Oklahoma. Shyam was thoughtful, kind, caring and loving. He loved to argue and pontificate on all facets of Philosophy at the OU Philosophy Lounge.
Shyam was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Purushottam and Vimal Patwardhan of Pune, India; maternal grandparents, Wolf and Lois Eldridge of Dustin, Oklahoma; and paternal aunts Neela Gokhale and Vilasini Bhide of Pune, India. Shyam is survived by his parents, Suhas and Joy Patwardhan of Norman; his brother, Wolf Conner Eldridge and wife Aimee Eldridge and their daughter Cheyenne Kuehl of Watertown, Wisconsin; and his aunt, Sherri Dee Mayo and husband Dan Mayo of Tulsa.
