Perry Patterson

???? ~ 1915

Perry Patterson, one of the old time colored men of this vicinity, was drowned in Brushy Sunday evening, while assisting to rescue some horses which were marooned in the Brushy bottom. When admonished that it was dangerous to undertake to swim the swollen stream, he is said to have remarked that "Ise web-footed and ain't no white man".

He was last seen floating down stream, apparentely making his way to a big tree, but suddenly sank never to rise again. The body was recovered not far distant where he was last seen to go down.
