April 8, 1925 ~ May 7, 2010

The celebration of life for Leon W. Parsons, 85, of Guthrie, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at First United Methodist Church, Guthrie. Arrangements are by Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.

He was born April 8, 1925, in Hatfield, Ark., to Daniel and Victoria Parsons and died Friday, May 7, 2010.

He moved with his family to Edmond as a child, where he attended Edmond schools. On June 28, 1943, Leon enlisted in the Army Air Force and was honorably discharged Jan. 8, 1946.

He married Florine B. Peeler June 22, 1946. After working several years for Peeler Oil Co. in Guthrie, he worked 31 years with National Life and Accident Company in Perry and Enid. They retired and moved to Guthrie in 1990.

Surviving are his wife, Florine; four daughters, Carol Erikson of Alva, Kathie Rather of Tulsa, Donna Graham of Enid, and Jan Matthes of Clayton; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church restoration fund, 224 East Noble, Guthrie, OK 73044.

On Friday, May 7, 2010, Leon W. Parsons died peacefully in his sleep. He was born April 8, 1925 in Hatfield, AR to Daniel and Victoria Parsons.

Early in his childhood, his family moved to Edmond where he attended Edmond Schools. On June 28, 1943 Leon enlisted in the Army Air Force and was honorably discharged January 8, 1946. He married Florine B. Peeler June 22, 1946.

After working several years for Peeler Oil Company in Guthrie, he was employed for 31 years with National Life and Accident Company in Perry and Enid. Leon and Florine retired and moved to Guthrie in 1990 which gave him more time to fish and garden.

He is preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister Alma Thies, 3 brothers Marvin, Freeman, and Herman Parsons, and 1 son-in-law Eldon Erikson.

Survivors include his bride of 63 years, Florine, daughters Carol Erikson of Alva, Kathie Rather and husband Geoff of Tulsa, Donna Graham and husband David of Enid, and Jan Matthes and husband Judd of Clayton, and grandchildren Jason Graham and wife Rebecca, Andrea Matthes, Max Matthes, Jennifer Holmes and husband Gary, and Jaela Lilly and husband J.R.

Celebration of Leon's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church of Guthrie followed by an opportunity to share your memories with family and friends. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church Restoration Fund, 224 East Noble, Guthrie, OK 73044.
