James A. "Jim" Parsons, 78, of Alabaster, Ala., passed from this life on May 26, 2025, at his home. Jim was born April 18, 1947, to James Arthur Parsons and Geraldine Parsons in Shawnee, Okla.
Jim's father was in the newspaper business so the family lived in Texas during Jim's childhood returning to Oklahoma when his father became editor of the Shawnee News-Star. Jim and his sisters, Diane and Sandye returned to Shawnee on summer vacations to spend time with their grandparents, Felix and Della Parsons, aunts and uncles, Jack and Mildred Gibbons and Glenn and Ora Parsons. Memories they would forever cherish. I don't know of anyone who hasn't heard the many stories told by the three of them.
Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He returned to Texas after his discharge and married Paula Spradley Parsons. They were blessed with two sons, Jeremy Parsons and James M. Parsons.
Jim moved to Birmingham, Ala., in 1982 where he lived the remainder of life with his late wife and fur babies. He left the state but never our hearts.
Jim is survived by his sons and their families, Jeremy (Julie) Parsons Ft. Worth, Texas, James (Mitchell) Santa Fe, Texas; grandchildren Andrew (Lexy), Isabella (Logan)and Franklin Harrell; great-granddaughter Sophie; his nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved, Cheri Campbell of Shawnee, Jeri Miranda of San Antonio, Texas, Keri Hanna of Conway, Ark., Teri Campbell of Plainfield, Conn., Randy Childers of Tecumseh, Okla., Steve Childers of Hallsville, Texas, Lori Childers of Shawnee, Morgan Parr of Beaufort, S.C.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, his parents Geraldine and Arthur Parsons, his sisters Diane Campbell and her husband Robert Campbell, Sandye Parsons Wiley and her husband Paul Wiley.
Graveside services were held at Greenwood Cemetery on Saturday, May 31, 2025, in Montgomery, Ala, under the direction of Leak Memorial Chapel.
