Carolyn Jane (Burress) Parrish, 86, passed away peacefully the morning of January 19th, 2016, in Edmond, OK.
She was born July 6th, 1929 in Okmulgee, OK. She was predeceased by her parents; William Arthur and Daisy Dean (Burt) Burress and her husband, Lee Whipple Parrish, Jr. She attended Wilson Elementary and Harding HS in OKC. She graduated from Duncan HS and received her B.A. in social work from the University of Oklahoma in 1950. She and Lee met at OU and married in July of 1950.
Carolyn was a proud member of Kappa Alpha Theta. She was a life time member of OU's Alumni Association and served as the secretary of the Alumni Board in the 70's. She was an active member of St Matthew's Episcopal Church in Enid, serving on the Vestry, Altar Guild Directress, president of ECW, Sunday school teacher and Chairperson of Christian Education. She was a past board member of the United Way and Camp Fire Girls. She was a member of P.E.O., chapter FA. Lee and Carolyn resided in Enid, OK., and were retired from the insurance business.
They enjoyed travel and needlepoint. Carolyn took pleasure in bridge, crossword puzzles and spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by her son; Lee W. Parrish, III (Trey) Nashville, TN; daughter and son-in-law Lyn and Mark Patton, Edmond, OK. Four grandchildren; Reid Parrish, San Diego, CA, Taylor Grisham, Nashville, TN, Leigh Patton, Ft.Collins, CO and Max Patton, Denver, CO. She will always be remembered for the best holiday dinners, her Christmas traditions, her love of dogs and her laughter. Special thanks to the staff at Touchmark and Good Shepherd Hospice for their loving care.
The memorial service for Carolyn will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church with Father John Toles Officiating. Services are under the direction of Henninger~Hinson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Matthew's Episcopal Church with the funeral home acting as custodians of the fund.
