Anna Jean (Wallace) Orth

Anna Jean (Wallace) Orth
September 20, 1916 ~ April 12, 2011 (age 94)

Jean Orth, a long time Norman resident, passed away on April 12, 2011 in Edmond, OK. She was 94 years old. Jean was born on September 20, 1916 in Calumet, OK to Roy and Martha (Bullock) Wallace.

She graduated from Chickasha High School in 1934 and Oklahoma College for Women in 1938 with a B.A. degree in Business. In 1939 she married Harper Orth who directed the J. D. McCarty Center in Norman and preceded her in death in 2002.  Jean was employed for 12 years as Registrar at Norman High School. She was an active member of First Baptist Church and a community volunteer. Her volunteer commitments included Assistance League of Norman and Norman Municipal Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters and 4 brothers, her husband, Harper, and her grandson, Doug Berry.

She is survived by daughters Judy Berry (Tulsa) and Barbara Boggs (Edmond), son-in-law Dalton Boggs, grandchildren Ryan Berry (Corpus Christi, TX), David Boggs and wife Gail (Louisville, KY), and Natalie Boggs (Edmond). She is also survived by 4 great grandchildren, Katie, Benjamin, Abby, and Josie Boggs (Louisville, KY).

Jean will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.  She and Harper enjoyed 62 years of a happy marriage and were avid OU sports fans.  Jean loved spending time with her daughters and grandchildren and treasured sharing sweet memories of them.  She spent happy hours with friends playing bridge, golf, and being a long-time member of a church sewing group, and a neighborhood garden club.  We will all miss her precious smile, her delightful giggle, her sense of humor, and holding her hand.

A private family service was held in Norman, OK on April 14.

Contributions in her honor can be made to the College of Arts and Sciences, at the University of Oklahoma Ellison Hall 633 Elm Avenue Norman, Oklahoma 73019; the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Tulsa 800 South Tucker Drive Tulsa, OK 74104; and Hope Center 1251 North Broadway Edmond, OK 73034-3616.
