Daniel Warren O’Neill lost his battle with cancer on September 25, 2022, in Stillwater, OK.
He was born on December 2, 1945 to James Jesse and E. Marie (Little) O’Neill in Ponca City, Oklahoma. He attended Braden School and graduated from Ponca City Senior High in 1964. He graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Forestry.
He proudly served in the US Navy, and It was during this service that he met the love of his life, Lorraine Dickerson. After panicking and making a run for it, he returned to Bellingham, WA and they were married in September 1969. To this union, one daughter was born. Dan and Lorraine lived outside of Ponca City in the house they built together.
Dan worked in a variety of jobs, including the US Forestry Services, Conoco and Lowes. His favorite job was with Ponca City Parks and Recreation. “His girls” and the rest of the team remained a part of his life after his retirement in 2011.
Dan was never happier than when he was on the farm he grew up on and called home. He spent hours tending to the land on his faithful tractor, Henry. He loved teaching his daughter, his adopted “kids”, grandkids, nieces and nephews about plants, trees, and insects. Tractor rides were always available. The greatest gifts he gave to everyone he encountered were kindness and truly listening to what they had to say.
Dan is survived by his loving spouse of 53 years, Lorraine, his daughter Jennifer (and David) McGlothlin of Ponca City, his adopted daughter, Stacy Hutcherson of Mesa, AZ, 11 grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father (James Jesse and Marie O’Neill) and his brother (James Hoyd O’Neill).
