Louella "Lou" Bell Oldaker, 71, passed away in Phoenix, Arizona, on April 1, 2023, after a prolonged battle with dementia.
Lou, daughter of the late Corbet Dewey and Magdelean Swain Oldaker was born November 5, 1951, in Port Clinton, Ohio. Lou was preceded in death by husband Roger Smith and former husband Thomas Derrickson. Additional family members who have preceded her in death are sisters Marcia Maricle, Brenda Jarrell, Mary Harper and brother Carl Oldaker.
Most of Lou's childhood was spent in and around the Lesage, West Virginia, area. She married Thomas Derrickson in Missouri. They later moved to Alva, Oklahoma, where they raised their two daughters.
Lou held different jobs throughout her life; however, the one she enjoyed the most and continued to do until her diagnosis of dementia was caring for others. She was a certified nurse aide and medication aide for many years at Beadles Nursing home in Alva, Oklahoma. Lou also spent several years caring for Clarence "Grampy" Murrow and his wife Ruth in their Alva, Oklahoma, home until their time of passing. Lou continued her work as a caregiver when she married Roger Smith and lived in Nickerson, Kansas.
Lou loved God, country music, laughter, and her family. She spent her life caring for others and blessed many lives with this talent. She is survived by two daughters Kelley McVey of Hutchinson, Kansas; Rhonda and Jason Norton of Cave Creek, Arizona; one granddaughter Rosalee Gordon of Hutchinson, Kansas; one grandson Devin Norton, his fiancée Hannah Metsker and one great-grandson Midas Norton of Cave Creek, Arizona; former husband Kenneth Pharis of Alva, Oklahoma; along with many nieces, nephews and other family members.
Donations may be made in her memory to Hospice of the Valley.
