Sidney Merle Ohmart, 77, passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at his residence in Norman. He was born in Enid, Oklahoma on December 29, 1935 to Charles Merle and Lelia Ohmart.
He attended Enid public schools and graduated from Enid High School in 1953. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1957 with a Bachelor’s degree in English. He later graduated from Central State College in Edmond with a Master’s degree in Education. Sidney taught English for many years at Northwest Classen High School in Oklahoma City. He also taught English for several years at Wantagh, Long Island, New York. He later taught English at Tulsa Junior College.
For the past several years, Sidney held the position of housefather, chapter advisor and student counselor for the Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity at the University of Oklahoma. This was a job he prized and loved above all others.
Sidney was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Bernice Ohmart; his stepsister, Shirley Williamson and a step nephew, Richard Williamson.
He is survived by his two step nephews, James Williamson and his wife Sandra and Thomas Williamson, all of Tulsa, Oklahoma. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 12, 2013 in the Chapel of the Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman.
Arrangements for Sidney and his family were placed in the care of the Vice Family at Havenbrook Funeral Home.
