Jimmy Ray Nunley, Sr, age 75 of Wanette, passed away Friday, February 26, 2021, at the Purcell Municipal Hospital. Jimmy was born December 2, 1945 in Coweta, OK, the 2nd of 6 children born to Floyd Lee Nunley and Vergie (Munholland) Nunley. He was raised in Okla. City, and attended school there, graduating from Classen High School with the Class of 1971.
Jimmy followed his heart and answered the call-in service to his country. He joined the United States Army, and this led to a long and distinguished career. Jimmy married young to Betty Jean Brown and to this union, two sons; Jim Jr. and Terry were born. Jimmy retired from the Oklahoma National Guard as a SSGT after more than 29 years of service. He purchased a small acreage near Wanette and has called it home for the last 40 years. Jimmy was sort of a jack of all trades, and worked in a variety of places including as a fueler for the Heliport east of Lexington. By 1994, he had met Joeann Parker, and they were the best of friends and companions. Jimmy will be dearly missed!
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Floyd and Vergie Nunley and brother, Johnny Nunley.
Jimmy is survived by: two sons, Jim Nunley of Haslet, TX and Terry Nunley of Mulhall, OK; Brother, Richard Nunley of OKC; three sisters, Wanda Coffman and husband Charlie of OKC, Jeanne Colclazier of OKC and Linda Dotson of Pauls Valley; Friend and companion, Joeann Parker of Wanette and a host of other family and friends.
