Gary D. Nottingham, a resident of Durant, OK joined his Lord and Savior on January 31, 2021 at the age of 73. He was the son of Arthur Earl Nottingham and Helen Marjorie (Abel) Nottingham born in Liberty, TX on May 6, 1947. Gary married his beloved Sandra Jackson on June 2, 1978 in Moss Hill, TX.
A memorial service in honor of Gary’s life will be held at 2:00 PM Friday February 5, 2021 at the Holmes~Coffey~Murray Chapel in Durant, OK with Danny Cochran officiating. The service will be available for viewing on our fb page at the time of the service.
Gary graduated from High School in Dayton, TX, afterward he joined the US Army during the Vietnam Era serving from 1967-1970. He went on to attend San Antonio College and St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, TX.
Gary served his country and was assigned to the Fourth US Army Headquarter Band in San Antonio, TX and then reassigned to the 3rd Infantry Marine Division band in Wurtzburg, Germany. Gary had the honor of being invited to play for former First Lady, Ladybird Johnson at two of her Christmas parties at the Admiral Nimentz Center in Fredericksburg, TX.
The most important decision Gary ever made was when he accepted Jesus in 1977 going on to receive his ministry ordination in 1982. Of all the things one could say about Gary is that loving his family and serving God brought him no greater joy.
Even though Gary was a master carpenter many labeled him as an “artisan”
after seeing his skill and woodworking creations.
Gary was a great story
teller, especially when sharing his childhood adventures of growing up with
his brother, sisters and cousins and he always had a “joke” for anyone he
would meet!
The love for his family and friends was always a priority. If anyone was going through a difficult time, Gary always stepped in and began to pour into their life, reminding them of who they were and their worth.
Mr. Nottingham is survived by his cherished wife Sandra of the home, children, Nicholas Nottingham and wife Dubleighsa of Richardson, TX and daughter, Jessica Nottingham of McKinney, TX, sister, Margie McKay of Richmond, TX, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mr. Nottingham was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Larry Gene Nottingham, and sister, JoAnn Frazier.
Services are under the direction of Holmes~Coffey~Murray Funeral Home in
