Betty (Kilman) Northcutt

Betty (Kilman) Northcutt
November 17, 1929 ~ July 23, 2020

Betty Kilman Northcutt passed peacefully from this life on July 23, 2020, at the age of 90. She was born November 17, 1929 in Oklahoma City to Marvin and Mary (Kozel) Kilman. A 1946 graduate of Classen High School, she went on to earn a bachelor's degree in business from the University of Oklahoma. In 1951, Betty was one of the very first women to become a CPA in the state. She began working for attorney Kenneth McAfee.

During a short marriage, Betty's daughter, Sue, was born. When the two of them returned to Oklahoma, Betty went back to work at the growing McAfee Taft law firm, finally retiring in 2017 at age 87. She was an independent, courageous, and inspiring woman who managed to balance motherhood and a professional career in an outstanding way, at a time when few women were doing so.

Betty was a lifelong Sooner fan, a cat-lover, and a "killer" board game player. She loved Wheel of Fortune and was a prize winner when the game came to OKC in the 1970s. She was a generous woman, preferring to spend money on others rather than herself. She prayed for her friends and family and sent Hallmark cards at all the right moments.

Betty had a relationship with Jesus Christ since her youth. She enjoyed using her natural talent as a pianist in church, and for many years taught boys and girls about Jesus in Sunday school. She was an active member at Crestwood Baptist Church for over 50 years and at Portland Avenue Baptist Church for the past 24 years.

Betty's faith will be her ultimate legacy, something she has passed down to three generations. She was preceded in death by her dear friend and sister-law, Katy Kilman, and by brother, Marvin Kilman and wife, Juanita. She is survived by her beloved brother, John Kilman; daughter, Sue Robinson and husband Dan; grandson, Peter Robinson, MD; grandson, Bart Robinson and wife Rose; grandson, MAJ Andrew Robinson (US Army) and wife Jillian; granddaughter, Shalimar Burwell and husband Adam; niece, Carol Kilman; nephew, Ron Kilman and wife Joyce; nephew, Bob Kilman and wife Mary; 11 great-grandchildren and numerous great-nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Betty's life will be held Friday, July 31, 10:00 a.m. at Portland Avenue Baptist Church. Memorial gifts may be made to Portland Baptist Church and designated for Baptist Mission Center Community Ministries.
