Harry E. Norris

November 16, 1924 ~ September 10, 2007

Harry E. Norris, longtime Cushing resident and retired truck driver, passed away on Monday, September 10, 2007 in the Cushing Regional Hospital at the age of 82 years.

The son of the late Frank E. Norris and Edith Yates Norris, Harry was born on November 16, 1924 in Woodriver, Illinois and was reared and educated in Salem, IL, graduating from Salem High School.

He was united in marriage to Martha Maxine York in October 1945 in Kentucky, and to this union, one son Mike, was born. Maxine preceded him in death on July 11, 1989.

Harry was a member of the Church of the Nazarene; was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army; was an avid sports fan, having played semi-pro baseball in Illinois and coaching youth baseball here in Cushing.

He was a truck driver having worked for Dudley and Heath Drilling Company out of Stillwater for several years prior to working for Speed-A-Way. He retired from Speed-A-Way after 30 years, later working part-time for Gibble Gas.

Survivors include his son, Mike Norris of Oklahoma City; one granddaughter, Stacie Ake and her husband Kevin of Newcastle; one great-grandson, Dillon Ake of Newcastle, OK; one great-granddaughter Chandler Ake of Newcastle, OK; one brother, Laurel E. Norris and his wife Marion of Springfield, IL; four sisters-in-law, Dorys Saunders of Carmi, IL, Helen Endicott of Clewiston, FL, Betty Dozier and her husband Ralph of Fairfield, IL and Delores Smith of Carmi, IL; two aunts, Elsie Johnson and Clara Garret; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Elizabeth "Libby" Collard; two brothers-in-law, Darrell York and Lecil York and one sister Ruth Weiss.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. in the Enfield Cemetery in Enfield, IL with Dallas Robinson, pastor of the Carmi Church of the Nazarene, officiating.

The family will greet friends and family on Wednesday from 5-7 in the Floyd Family Center, East of the Funeral Home.
