Ronald Jay Nichols, a longtime resident of Locust Grove, Oklahoma, passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2026, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 66 years, 3 months, and 15 days. He was born on February 13, 1960, in Pryor, Oklahoma, to Lloyd Eugene Nichols and Irene Louise (Orduno) Nichols. Jay spent his childhood in the Aransas Pass, Texas area, where he attended school. Though he spent a short time living in Michigan, he made his home in Locust Grove in 1980.

A dedicated and hardworking man, Jay worked for Building Systems of Tulsa for some time. At the time of his passing, he was employed by Williams Construction in Muskogee, where he served as a Project Superintendent. He was highly regarded for his strong work ethic, dependability, and leadership, earning the respect of coworkers and friends alike.

Outside of work, Jay was a talented lead guitar player who had a deep love for music. He also enjoyed spending time fishing and creating lasting memories with those he loved most. Family was the center of his life, and he especially enjoyed hosting family gatherings at his home, where laughter, stories, and fellowship were always abundant.

Jay shared more than 13 years of companionship and love with Cindy Lynn Garrett, who remained faithfully by his side. Those who knew Jay will remember him as a kind-hearted, caring, and dependable man. Whether at work, at home, or among friends, he was someone people could count on. His steady presence, generous spirit, and genuine concern for others left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Jay is survived by: His wife, Cindy, of the home; 2 children: Tanya Nichols of Keys, Oklahoma, and Jeremy Winkle and wife Edi of Coweta, Oklahoma; 9 grandchildren: Destiny Nichols and fiancé` Jayvon Burnett, Trenton Nichols, Benton Martin, Janiz Brown and husband Adrian, Kaleigh Winkle, Bailey Winkle, Hannah Shedd, Emma Shedd, and Patty Shedd; 3 great grandchildren: Jaylen Burnett, Jaycelynn Burnett, Robert Brown, with Colton Brown on the way; 1 brother: Ricky Eugene Nichols and wife Sarah Ellen of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; 7 sisters: Patricia Kay Mauch and husband Robert Patterson of Aransas Pass, Texas, Catherine Laird of Locust Grove, Oklahoma, Diane Nichols of Borger, Texas, Melva Hunt and husband Terry of Nashville, Tennessee, Dorothy Lynn Wolfe and husband Jimmy of Borger, Texas, Sherry Nichols of Aransas Pass, Texas, and Sybil Nichols of Aransas Pass, Texas; The mother of his children: Patricia Nichols, of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; As well as numerous other relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by: his parents; 1 brother: Lloyd Allen Nichols; and 1 sister: Cindy Nichols.

A funeral service celebrating Jay’s life will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, June 1, 2026, at the Locust Grove Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Doug Bryant officiating.
