Peggy Jeanne (Hoshield) Nicholas

Peggy Jeanne (Hoshield) Nicholas
September 24, 1943 ~ October 16, 2025

Peggy was born on September 24, 1943 in Perry, Michigan. She left this world surrounded by her loved ones on October 16, 2025 at the age of 82 years & 22 days.

Peggy was raised and educated around Lansing, Michigan, spending a large portion of her time with her Aunt Marge.

After graduating, while on a trip to North Carolina, she met Benny Nicholas, whom she later married. They had two children, Doris Nicholas and Wayne Nicholas. As a family, they traveled the United States following the pipeline. She would load the car and travel solo wherever the job was. While at home and also later in life, she was a machinist and later, a bartender and hotel manager. Moving on to Avis until retiring.

In 1980, she officially changed her name to "Nanny" after her only grandson, Trey Hunter, was born. She loved being a grandparent. Trey and his Nanny went on several adventures and remained a tight team as she moved on to being a great-grandmother to Katelynn Jean, Ethan Trey, Caydenn Nicholas, Camdenn Raye, Jaxx Jean, and Benny Ray. She played a huge role in their life, always being there, ready to take a bullet for any of them. As her grandson would say, "She loved hard and was loved harder."

She also had a huge love for family, staying close to all of her cousins and niece, Leah Ray. She loved animals and took in strays like she did kids. She loved to cook for her crew and had a green thumb, saying "dirt therapy" is good for your soul. She could tell stories with the best of them and could pull you out of a funk with her love and humor.

Peggy is preceded in death by her mother, Dona, and siblings— Bud, Patty, David, and Laura.

Peggy will be dearly missed and will be leaving us going "one day at a time," as she would always say.

I know she would also like to remind her babies to watch out for low-flying birds.
