Larry W. Nelson of Pottsboro, Texas passed away at the age of 76 on July 26, 2023 at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas. He was born in Wichita, Kansas on September 26, 1946 His Parents were Cecil I. and Ellen K. (Wiley) Nelson who preceded him in death.
Larry Enlisted in the Marine Corp on September 26, 1963 at the age of 17 and was a machine gunner in Vietnam. He was Honorably discharged on September 25, 1967
He went on to become a drafting teacher and later on worked in the aircraft industry as a design engineer.
He met the love of his life and soul mate Kathy on October 7, 1986 in Washington State They were married in Fort Worth, Texas on August 26, 1987
Surviving is his Wife Kathy of the home Pottsboro, Texas. Sister Debbie Tasker of Wichita, Kansas. Son Scott Nelson and wife Amber of Arlington, Texas Daughter Shelly Schmidt and husband Rob of Lutz, Florida. Six Grandchildren A.J., Skyler, Ira, Samantha, Johnny and Bishop. One Great Grandson, many Nieces and Nephews and his beloved dogs muddslide and Missy.
He belonged to many organizations and was a member of the American Legion MIA #231, Masonic Lodge, Lifetime member of VFW #7873, Elks Lodge # 238, Fraternal Order of Eagles #85, Marine Corp League, the Purple Heart Association and the DAV. He had many friends and his best friends were Mark Heisey and Richard Wilkinson. He loved his Family, animals, People at his church. He also loved fishing, playing hold-em and shooting pool.
Cremation was selected and Memorial Services will be announced at a later date. The register book may be signed and condolences sent to the Family online @cunninghamfuneralhomesok.com Arrangements are Entrusted to Cunningham Funeral Home in Colbert, Oklahoma
