Memorial services for Anthony James “Tony” Nelson, 59, of Tulsa, OK, were held Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Johnson Funeral Chapel in Sperry, OK.
Anthony, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, was born May 7, 1965, in Stillwater, OK, to Robert Vincent Nelson and Marylin Jean (Duckwall) Nelson. He passed away November 24, 2024, in Tulsa, OK.
Tony was known for his adventurous spirit and boundless heart. Many lovingly referred to him as “Big T,” a fitting name for a man who was large in stature and even larger in heart. Growing up in Stillwater, Tony was a vibrant presence in his community. He spent many joyful days running around with his cousins at Duckwalls Wholesale, where the sweet allure of candy and a touch of mischief were always present.
Tony graduated from Stillwater High School in 1983, earning a reputation as a legend on the football field. After high school, he pursued higher education in Tahlequah, where he continued to embrace his passion for fast cars and the great outdoors. Known for his charm and charisma, Tony had a way of bringing joy to those around him, especially the many women who adored him. Most importantly, his late mother, Marylin, who was the love of his life. So much so, he named his daughter, Marylin in her honor. He had missed her from the moment she passed until he went home to be with her. Tony was an avid boater, excellent cook, an Elvis connoisseur, and not only a source of fun and laughter, but also a kind-hearted individual who loved helping others. He often volunteered his skills in handy work to neighbors in need, demonstrating his generous spirit. Tony’s genuine spirit lit up every room he entered, and he was the life of the party throughout his life. He loved history and many genres of music. He dared anyone to challenge his knowledge in Trivia. Despite facing significant health challenges in his final year, he remained strong and resilient.
He is survived by his beloved daughter, Marylin and her husband, Hugo; his beloved son, Rowdy and wife, Perla; granddaughters, Amelia and Scarlett; grandsons Ira, Ezra, Enzo, and Aedan; and a multitude of heartbroken friends and girlfriends who will miss him dearly.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Marylin and Bob Nelson; his aunt, Doris Cross, and others from the Duckwall and Nelson families.
Arrangements and services were entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home, Sperry.
