Services for Cody Myers will be held Friday, Sept. 7, at 2 p.m., at the Park Hill Baptist Church, with Brothers Sam Keener and John Moles officiating. The services were entrusted to the care and direction of Hart Funeral Home. An online guestbook is available at www.hartfuneralhome.net.
Cody James Robert Myers passed suddenly from this life and went to be with his Lord and savior, Sept. 1, 2012. Cody was born April 15, 1989, to a family overjoyed by his arrival.
As a small child, Cody loved dinosaurs. He could say Tyrannosaurus Rex almost before he could say his name. As he grew, he began to share his father Larry's love of sports, participating on many little league teams. Not only was Cody a special little boy, but he lived in a special house, having to take a photograph to school to prove to his teacher that he truly did live in a rainbow house.
Cody attended Shady Grove and Grand View schools through the eighth grade. He was not only a good student academically, but also an all-around athlete, participating in many sports. He had a kind heart towards others, and if he chose to talk, he could be quite witty at times.
Cody attended Keys High School, graduating in 2007. He continued to be a good student, but his heart was in sports, playing baseball, basketball and football. He kept his parents busy running to different games, some his mom commented were in places she had to Google to find. His love of sports garnered him All-Sports King for Homecoming, 2006. He enjoyed spending time with his teammates and classmates very much.
Before he had a driver's license, Grandpa Jones told Cody it was time to purchase a vehicle. He let Cody choose, and everyone recognizes his pickup. It was always clean and waxed. People teased him that he was going to wash the paint off because he washed it almost daily. His pickup was one of his most prized possessions.
Shortly after he got his driver's license, he was faithful to drive himself to church every Sunday. He was an active member of the youth group at Southside Baptist. While attending Southside, he accepted the Lord as his savior and was baptized and became an active member there.
While in high school, he was also fortunate enough to have already met the love of his life, Emily Thompson. Cody and Emily were together for the most part of seven years, and at times were inseparable. They were married Sept. 10, 2011.
Cody attended Indian Capital Vo-Tech in Muskogee, earning several drafting certifications. Cody never got in a hurry on anything, including his drafting projects. He was meticulous and methodical in his work. This led to his current job, a job he really loved and was proud of, as a district computer technician for Muskogee Public Schools.
In March 2008, Cody met Patrick Smith, his biological grandfather. In July of 2008, he met his biological sister, Samantha. In March of 2009, the circle was made complete when Jencie Smith and Elizabeth Noggle traveled from Fortuna, Calif., to join Cody and Samantha, and welcomed their brother, Jacob Bilby, into the group.
Cody was preceded in death by his grandfathers, James Jones, Robert Myers and Patrick Smith; and his biological mother, Shanda Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Emily; parents, Larry and Judy Myers of Tahlequah; brothers, Rhett Myers of Coweta, Jacob Bilby of Japan; brothers of the heart, Terry Carter and Sonny Solis; sisters, Jencie Smith and Elizabeth Noggle of Fortuna, Calif., and Samantha Smith of Tahlequah; grandmothers, Ella Mae Jones of Tahlequah, Verna Faye Myers of Cement, and step-grandmother Pat Smith of Tahlequah. Also surviving are aunts and uncles, Marty and Teresa Falling of Riverton, Kan., Lori and Chris Stinnett, and Deborah and Terry Myers, all of Chickasha; cousins, Bronwyn and Zack Phillips of Joplin, Mo., Attalie and Cody Neal of Baxter Springs, Kan., Cammie Myers of Mustang, Molly Myers of Edmond, and Shane Seitz of Chickasha, and numerous cousins in the Smith family; nephew, Urijah Solis of Tahlequah, and Kasaundra and Sierra Garcia of Fortuna, Calif. He is also survived by his in-laws, Lloyd and Carmen Thompson; brother-in-law, Clay Thompson; and sister-in-law, Olivia Thompson, all of Tahlequah; as well as Emily's grandparents, Dewayne and Mary Ellen Arteberry, also of Tahlequah.
