Larry Lee Murray, 62, of Enid, passed away July 31, 2020, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center.
Larry was born January 24, 1958, in Oklahoma City to Henry and Geraldine (Collins) Murray. Larry attended high school at U.S. Grant in Oklahoma City. After high school, Larry began working to provide for his guardian and grandmother, Rachel Johnson. He worked for various companies, including K&G Fish Co., where he first operated a truck.
In the early 1980s, Larry began what would be a long career in the oil and gas industry, when he was hired by Getty Oil, as a crude oil transport driver. He continued his employment with the company, which would become Texaco in 1984, and subsequently Equilon in 1989. Shortly after that, Larry started his own trucking company, Larry Murray Trucking, as an owner-operator. He was extremely proud of his Million Mile award, for driving over one million consecutive miles without a preventable accident, in 1998. He later expanded that into another successful company, Murray Enterprises, hauling jet fuel, gasoline and other refined products through the early 2000s, until his retirement.
Larry met the love of his life, Linda Gausman, on a blind date in 1976. They were married shortly after that and soon moved to Piedmont, where they would raise their three daughters. They moved to Enid in 2006, where he lived until his passing. Larry loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved watching movies, laughing, telling stories and jokes and had an affinity for the simple things in life.
Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Geraldine Murray; father, Henry Murray; grandmother, Rachel Johnson; aunt, Patricia Woods and uncle, Vernon Bigham.
Larry is survived by his wife of forty-four years, Linda, of the home; daughter, Bridgett Mason, husband, Matt and children, Garret and Allie, of Edmond; daughter, Jennifer Vaverka, partner, Shaun Jones and children, Nathan, Riley and Lilee of Waukomis; daughter, Taylor Hines, husband, J.R. of Enid; sister Debra Delk; nephew, Cory and niece, Jenna.
The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital in Larry's name through the funeral home.
