Darlene Capps Murphy, "Deani", 72, died March 1, 2014, after a long battle with cancer. At the time of her death she was residing at the home of her daughter of Tulsa OK.
During the past two years she enjoyed being close to her family: her son, Bob Van Sant of Tulsa OK, daughter Chrissie Elliott and husband Don, and grandson Joseph Pennington who was adored by his Nana.
She looked forward to frequent visits from her siblings: Herb Murphy and wife, Gladys of Shawnee KS, Christine Roye of Owasso OK, and Sandee Young and husband Jim of Bartlesville OK. Additional survivors include several neices, nephews, and cousins and their families. Her parents, Herbert and Dollie (Capps) Murphy preceded her in death.
Darlene graduated from College High School in 1959 and completed her BA at Tulsa University. She later completed her Master's Degree at University of Oklahoma. While she worked as a high school English teacher at Bartlesville High School, she inspired many students with her love of literature and some went on to become English teachers themselves. Darlene was also able to live out her love of diplomacy by becoming the first Ombudsman for the Bartlesville School System. This was such an important opportunity for the teachers to have a liason with the Administration.
Later she pursued a career in computer programming and received many awards for excellence.
She displayed such love for others and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A private memorial service was held on March 22, 2014, at Spirit Church in Bartlesville, OK, officiated by Dr. Darryl Wootton.
