Eugene Tindell "Pete" Munson
May 23, 1928 ~ November 19, 2021

Eugene (Pete) Tindell Munson was born on May 23, 1928, to Thomas O. Munson and Evelyn (Tindell) Munson in the Kibby Community of Harper County, Oklahoma. He was raised on the family farm and was a student in the last 8th grade class to graduate from the rural Kibby School. Pete finished his schooling at Ft. Supply High School graduating in 1946, and a short stay at Northwestern State College in Alva.

On December 13, 1947, Pete married his loving wife Rachel (Drake) Munson in Perryton, Texas. From there they lived in the Kibby Community, Woodward and finally settled in Ft. Supply. To this marriage two sons, Steve and Stan, were born.

After marriage, Pete pursued his interest in farming and ranching for several years in the Kibby, Ft. Supply and Sharon, Oklahoma communities. During this time he was also employed at the USDA Range Research Station and Western State Hospital.

In 1958, Pete opened and operated Munson Lumber Company in Ft. Supply until 1974. During this time he was involved in several other ventures. He and his brother, Eddie, established and operated Munson Brothers Dirt Contractors. In 1968, Pete and two partners built the Downtown Motel in Woodward where Pete and Rachel continued to jointly own and operate the motel with one of the original partners until 1970. Pete also followed the corn silage harvest in Cimarron County, Oklahoma, for several seasons.

In 1974 Pete went to work at the Fargo Farmers Coop from where he finally retired. In 1976 Pete obtained his Oklahoma plumbing license and worked part-time as an independent plumber. After many years of service, Pete also retired as a Ft. Supply Volunteer Firefighter.

Pete was an avid trap shooter for many years until his hearing loss forced him to quit. He then developed a quieter interest in golf which he enjoyed for several years playing at Boiling Springs and Doby Springs with friend Bob Holloway and others.

Pete is survived by his wife Rachel of the home, son Steve and wife Anitta of Guymon, son Stan and wife Rita of Woodward. Grandson Travis Munson and wife Melissa of Woodward, Bond (Munson) Ferguson and husband Joe of Nichols Hills, OK, Shalako (Munson) Law and husband Blake of Amarillo, Texas. Granddaughter-in-law Michelle (Merkel) Munson of Stillwater, OK. Great Grandchildren, Madyson Munson, Jadyn Munson, John Munson, Emerson Law and Halle Law.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Evelyn Munson, Father and Mother-in-law Harry Drake and Katie (Adams) Drake, Grandson Derek Munson, sister Thelma (Munson) Burgess and husband George, brother Paul (Eddie) Munson and wife Nadine, brothers-in-law Robert Drake and wife Edna, Ray Drake and wife Naomi, , sisters-in-law Geneva (Drake) Howard and husband Jay, Cleta (Drake) Jessup and husband Ray, Coeta (Drake) Murray and husband Minard, niece Vonda Kay (Munson) Dorland, nephews Dennis Burgess and James Howard and life-long friend Sam Golden.
