James Roger Mullins

James Roger Mullins
October 11, 1947 ~  April 28, 2026

On Tuesday, April 28, 2026, Roger Mullins, age 78, of Oakwood, Oklahoma, passed away surrounded by his loving family. Roger was born on October 11, 1947, to Opal Louise and Jesse Mullins in Amarillo, Texas. Roger graduated from Palo Duro High School and was drafted to the United States Army where he served as a medic in the Vietnam War.

After serving his country in Vietnam, Roger returned to Amarillo where he met the love of his life, Yanina Mullins. They were married on June 19, 1970. Together they built a life they loved and raised their four children, Catherine, Sheri, James, and Jesse. They spent 52 loving years together before her passing in 2022.

Roger began his career in auto body working for his brother-in-law, Tony Widowski. After Tony’s passing, Roger managed the business and later opened his own shop, Roger’s Auto Body Repair and soon hired Larry Wagner who became his best friend. Roger loved his work and proudly served his customers for many years. After retirement, Roger and Nina moved to Oakwood, Oklahoma in 2015.

After moving to Oakwood, Roger was quickly approached and asked if he wanted to be mayor of the small town. He accepted and always joked that no one else wanted the title and he proudly referred to himself as Mayor Mullins. Roger and Nina loved the Oakwood Community and considered them family.

Roger was loving, kind, and would give you the shirt off of his back. He was known for his quick-witted humor and laughter was always guaranteed when he was around. Roger loved fishing and camping with his family. He loved watching old reruns of game shows and he would always tell you the bad decisions contestants were going to make before they did it.

Roger was proceeded in death by his parents Louise and Jesse, his two sisters April West and Carolyn Kime and his loving wife, Nina. Roger is survived by his four children, Catherine Stowers of Amarillo, Texas, Sheri and Tommy Fowler of Elk City, Oklahoma, James and Shannon Mullins of Amarillo, Texas and Jesse and Debbie Mullins of Goodnight, Texas. He also leaves behind a legacy of 14 grandchildren and spouses, 30 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 21, 2026, at the Oakwood Auditorium at Oakwood, Oklahoma. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.piercefuneralhomes.com.
