Suzanne Mounger was an accomplished artist, an expert gardener, a gourmet cook and a skilled and innovative potter. She was a loyal and loving daughter, sister, aunt & friend. She will be met on the Rainbow Bridge by the wagging tails and purrs of her beloved fur babies that she loved and lost through the years. A graphic artist by trade, she could recognize new colors, textures and patterns in ordinary natural things and she used those discoveries to create her distinctive pieces of art. A born naturalist, she was inspired by the speckles on a bird's egg, the veins of a feather, the texture of a lizard's skin or even the pattern in a bug's eye. She could take random pieces of cast off junk and transform them into art. Rusty oddities were assembled to make a birdbath, a planter, a bench. PVC pipe and plow discs could be arranged to make a fountain that would literally sing. Her delicate hands could spin a pot or bowl from a lump of clay that was aesthetically beautiful as well as useful and durable. She was always making something beautiful and interesting out of nothing, but she made sure it got a new life, too.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Wanda Mounger and her brothers Danny Lewis & Kelly Mounger.
Suzanne is survived by her aunt, Neva Jo Heckard of Denison, TX; her brother, Martin Mounger of Guthrie, OK; two sisters, Angela Fairchilds of Muskogee, OK and Jennifer Speck (husband Jesse) of Collinsville, OK; and by her friend and caregiver, Nick Slepko. She also leaves behind her nephews, Brian & Preston Fairchilds, Rusty & Jason Mounger, and her niece, Danielle McKenney.
She will be missed by everyone who knew her. The world has become a less colorful, paler place. In her memory, cast some wildflower seeds to the wind. Buy a piece of pottery from some unknown artist. Plant some flowers somewhere... maybe something blue... that was her favorite.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Friday, January 12, 2018 at Smith Memorial Chapel, 220 North First Street, Guthrie, OK. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.
