Myra Morton, 88, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, July 5, 2015, at her home in Enid, Okla.
Myra was born Aug. 28, 1926, to Arthur Melvin Rodgers and Jennie Chloe Spencer Rodgers in Blackwell, Okla., where she was raised and graduated from Blackwell High School in 1944.
She married Clifford Lee Morton Aug 5, 1944, just before he was deployed to Europe during WWII in Patton�s 45th Army Division.
After the war, she lived in Stillwater, Okla., while Cliff attended Oklahoma A&M. They moved to Enid in 1948, and established Cliff�s Camera Shop.
Myra was a homemaker who helped run the newly formed business, while Cliff continued his college education.
She graduated from Phillips University in 1967 and taught math at Enid High School for 10 years between 1967 and 1980.
In 1979, Myra began acquiring residential rental real estate properties. She personally managed and operated that business until 2012 in conjunction with supporting the camera business in various roles.
She was an active member of First Baptist Church until August 1961. She then became a charter member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, where she served as the first music director and a sponsor of youth activities.
Myra was a dedicated wife and mother, a terrific decorator and cook, a meticulous seamstress, and excelled at any endeavor she pursued. She played golf, tennis and bridge, loved entertaining and traveled extensively.
She is survived by Cliff, her husband of 70 years, and her daughter, Cara Morton of Dallas, Texas. She also is survived by two sisters, Leta Robbins of Salem, Ore., and Joan Boyd of Mesa, Ariz.; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Leonard Rodgers and Melvin Rodgers, and two sisters, Patty Craft and Rachel Wheeler.
A private family Celebration of Life and Memorial service will be held in the family home/garden on the morning of Aug. 28, 2015.
Family visitation will be at their home, 2019 Indian Drive, today, July 12, from 2-4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Circle of Love, Emmanuel Baptist Church and/or Forgotten Ministries, all in Enid.
