Gene L Morton

Gene L Morton
May 3, 1935 ~ August 19, 2018

Gene L Morton was born May 3, 1935 in Chandler to Junior (Jule) Clyde and Lizzie May (Duffy) Morton. He passed away August 19, 2018 in Edmond at the age of 83.

Gene was born at home outside of Chandler, the 7th of 10 children. He attended Victor School and later graduated from Kendrick High School in 1953. Gene proudly served his country in the United States Army with two separate tours of duty. He married Phyllis (Evans) December 24, 1960 and they raised 3 children together.

Gene worked in the oil field for over 10 years and then worked for the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority where he retired in 1997. He was an artist and enjoyed working with wood. He enjoyed hunting and fishing but had a love of music as he was raised in a musical family. He often played guitar at local venues including Midlothian.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Junior and Lizzie Morton; son, Kirby Morton; grandson, Garrett Kalka; siblings, Margret Savino, Jack Morton, George Morton and Phyllis Colvin. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Phyllis (Evans) Morton; daughters, Gina Hodson and husband Gary of Edmond, Karmon Cox and husband Chad of Stroud; (9) grandchildren; (7) great-grandchildren; siblings, James C. Morton, Ruth Correale, Lee Morton and his wife Donna, Laura “Marge” and her husband Kenneth Hixon, Franklin “Skip” Morton and his wife Camilla; sisters-in-law, Jana Stieber, Betty Morton; brother-in-law, Max Colvin; along with many other family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, August 25, 2018 at the Lehman Funeral Home Chapel in Wellston. Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
