Ernest Cecil Morton

Ernest Cecil Morton
February 21, 1925 ~ October 23, 2006

Ernest Cecil Morton, age 81, passed away on Monday, October 23, 2006 in the Stillwater Medical Center.

He was born February 21, 1925 to Ernest Cecil Morton and Pearle Vesti Russell in Ardmore, Oklahoma and was reared and educated in Cushing.

He married Cecelia Louise Perrin on February 11, 1945 in Cushing; to this union, four children were born.

Mr. Morton was a member of First Assembly of God Church. He participated as a Sunday School teacher and song leader before moving to Denver.

He served as a Cushing Reserve Police Officer for 7 years.

He was a WWII Veteran of the Navy, Seaman II Class till his honorable discharge on November 21, 1944 due to a motorcycle injury. He is a Life Long member of the DAV, Oklahoma City Chapter. After his service time, he returned to Cushing and drove a bus for Adkins Bus Line in 1945-46.

He established Morton Floor Covering in Cushing in 1952 to 1962 and moved to Denver, Colorado and opened a remodeling business till 1974 when they returned to Cushing to again reopen Morton Floor Covering then A. & B. Rental on Main Street.

He enjoyed flying, fishing, hunting and playing snooker at the Cushing Senior Citizen.

Survivors include Cecelia L. Perrin Morton, his wife of the home; a son, Michael Gene Morton, Sr. of Cushing, a daughter, Janis Elaine Freeman of Leakesville, MS, a daughter Cheryl Nanette Rose, a son Wesley Shawn Morton of Vaxjo, Sweden; 9 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; one sister, Dortha L. Morton Ormiston of Owasso; uncle, William Edgar Morton of Cushing; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Eugene Morton.

Services will be held Thursday, October 26, 2006 at 10:00 A.M. in the First Assembly of God Church with Pastor Robert Adams officiating.
