Vernon Jack Morris

February 29, 1928 ~ July 4, 2018

V. Jack Morris, 90, Independence, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, July 4, 2018, at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Graveside memorial services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence. Friends may register from 12:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 10, 2018, with the family receiving guests from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the chapel. Memorials may be made to V.F.W post 1186 and may be left with the chapel.

Jack was born February 29, 1928, in Independence, Kansas to James Albert and Eva Belle (Haines) Morris. He attended and graduated from Independence High School in 1946. Following High School, Jack enlisted in the United States Navy serving on the East Coast of the United States, Panama, Cuba, and Puerto Rico form 1946-1948. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, Jack was employed by Fram Corporation from 1948-1950. This is where he met his future wife Alberta May Duft. The couple married March 6, 1949, in Neodesha, Kansas and made their home in Independence, Kansas. Following their marriage, Jack was employed by Sinclair Pipe Line Corporation from 1950-1965. In 1965 Jack became employed by Standard Oil Company as an Agent in 1976 and retired in May 1989.

Jack was very patriotic and proud of his service to our country and showed his patriotism one last time by passing on Independence Day.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Alberta M. Morris and one brother Don Morris.

Survivors include one son, J. Michael ( Paula) Morris, Wichita, Kansas; one daughter Becky L. McDiarmid, Independence, Kansas; one brother, Bill ( Betty) Morris, Independence, Kansas, and three sisters, Nadine Farlow, Independence, Kansas, Mina ( Delmar) Watts, Independence, Kansas, and Janette ( Sherwood) Bryan; Houston, Texas, Three grandsons, Ryan C. McDiarmid, Brian A. Hight, Justin S. ( Andie) McDiarmid, all of Independence, Kansas, two granddaughters, Jobi ( Ron) Pierce, Overland Park, Kansas, Bradi (Bruce) Yaggie, Breckenridge, Minnesota.
