Services for Roger Curwood Morris, 81, of Ozark, Mo., are Friday, Sept. 28, at 2 p.m., at Green Country Funeral Home.
Roger Curwood Morris was born in Tahlequah, on Oct. 11, 1930, to John A. Morris and Zulah H. Nichols Morris. He went to be with his Lord, Sept. 25, 2012 in Springfield, Mo.
Roger enjoyed growing up in Tahlequah with his late sister, Betty Jo Morris.
Roger graduated from Central High School in Tahlequah in 1947. He then started his studies at Northeastern State University, where he graduated with a bachelor of science degree in business in 1955, after serving in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
He enjoyed his time at Northeastern, where he met his future bride, Ann. He boxed for the Redmen boxing team, and graduated with a master's degree in accounting from Northeastern in 1965.
He married his college sweetheart, Evelyn Ann Mercer in 1951, at the First United Methodist Church in Tahlequah.
Roger and Ann spent their early years coaching and teaching in Kansas, Missouri, and Locust Grove.
Roger was forever helping and encouraging everyone the Lord brought across his path. In the early 1960s, he was the head football coach, girl's basketball coach, taught a full schedule of classes at Locust Grove High School, life guarded in the summer, and was the preacher at the Methodist Church in Salina, but he always made time for his family.
In 1966, Roger joined the U.S. Air Force Audit Agency, which took him and his family around the world, living in New Mexico, Turkey, Greece, and Great Britain. His last assignment was in Wichita Falls, Texas, where he and Ann retired in 1990. But everyone who knows Roger knows he was not one to sit and rest.
Roger then became a bank auditor in north Texas, and later loved working at Lowe's watering the plants. Roger always brightened up any place he was.
He loved his God, his wife, his family, and his church. He never solicited or wanted any awards or recognition for any of his many achievements, but only wanted to serve others and brighten their day with his sense of humor.
Roger is survived by his wife Ann of almost 61 years; three children, John C. Morris of Lawton, David Morris of Weatherford, Texas, and Merri Pemberton of Ozark, Mo.; ten grandchildren, Kay Morris, Kara Morris, Ann Morris, Christopher Morris, Joseph Morris, Sarah Morris Brown, Katherine Morris Jones, Eric Pemberton, Ciara Pemberton and Levi Pemberton; six great grandchildren, Bram Brown, Brant Brown, Emma Morris, Emma's little sister due in February, Jackson Jones, and soon to be born, Sophie Jones, due in November; as well as many dear friends and family.
Due to Roger's encouragement in his children's education, in lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be sent to the John A. Morris Scholarship fund at Northeastern State University Foundation Alumni Association.
