Vernon Lee Moreland

Vernon Lee Moreland
May 5, 1932 ~ June 14, 2020

Vernon Lee Moreland, 88, went home to be with Jesus on June 14, 2020. He passed away following a brief illness.

Vernon was born to Oren and Augusta Moreland May 5, 1932, in Wagoner, Oklahoma. He was the eldest son of Oren and Augusta. Vernon lived and attended school in Wagoner and Coweta, Oklahoma.

Vernon served in the US Army beginning October 30, 1952, and was honorably discharged on October 29, 1954.

Vernon and Louise Moreland were married in the Spring of 1954 and made their home over the next several years in Bartlesville, Copan, Dewey, and Nowata, respectively. Vernon retired from TRW (formerly Reda Pump) in September 1990. In retirement, his greatest joys were spending time on the family ranch and having great adventures on the family ranch with his grandsons whom he loved and was proud of beyond measure. A few of his great adventures with his grandsons included teaching them to drive tractors and farm trucks, hunting, fishing, and camping. In 2017 he welcomed another great joy into his life, a great-grandson, whom he also loved and adored. Vernon was married to the love of his life, Louise Moreland, for 65 years.

Vernon is survived by a daughter, Laresa (Moreland) Collins of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; sister Helen Capps and husband Leon of Wichita, Kansas; sister, Lois Hersh-Moon of Wichita, Kansas; brother, Don Moreland of Nowata, Oklahoma; and, sister Pat Garretson of Wichita, Kansas; grandsons, Adam M. Collins and wife Bethany of Novato, California and Nathan P. Collins of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; great-grandson Talon A Collins of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Moreland; father and mother, Oren and Augusta Moreland; brother, Oren Moreland Jr; sister and brother-in-law, Lorene and Elmer Owens; brother, Kenneth Moreland; sister, Cherry Webb; brother-in-law, Rex Hersh; and brother-in-law, John Moon.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Bridge Houses, Inc, PO Box 1076, Bartlesville, Oklahoma 74005.
