Rev. Wilbur M. Mix

Graveside services for Rev. Wilbur M. Mix, 83, were Monday at 1:30 p.m. in Restland Memorial Park, Dallas, Texas. Memorial services followed at 2:00 p.m. in the Restland Memorial Chapel with Dr. Don McKenzie and Dr. Gene Lamb officiating.

Rev. Mix was a minister of several Christian Churches (Disciples of Christ) for over 61 years and was also Minister Emeritus of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Marietta. He served during World War II with the U.S. Army, European Theatre of Operation, and was also very active working with young people in numerous summer programs and local church youth groups.

He was a York Rite and Scottish Rite Mason, and a member of Hella Temple Shrine. Rev. Mix was awarded the Honorary Legion of Honor by the order of DeMolay for his work with young men in Garland, Texas, and Gainesville, Texas. A member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, he actively served in ministerial associations wherever he pastored. He was also well known as a story teller and preacher. The young people who came up through his church programs frequently referred to him as “Papa.”

Survivors include his son, Dr. Rex Mix; and grandchildren, Michelle Mix Brazil and Meredith Mix.
