Lou Ellen Minyard, 93, of Shawnee, Oklahoma passed away at her home on Friday, May 17, 2024 days after she turned 93, she lot her battle with Dementia/Alzheimer’s. She was born May 10, 1931 in Catoosa, Oklahoma to Oscar Bascum Merryman and Effie Gertrude (Hamilton) Merryman.
Lou Ellen attended business college in Tulsa, then married Bobby Jo Minyard on September 7, 1951. She worked at First Stat Bank for several years. She also sold real estate, Mary Kay cosmetics and Home Interiors before retiring to make crafts with her husband.
She attended Immanuel Baptist Church and was a member of the Red Hats Society, and the Epsilon Sigman Alpha sorority.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bob Minyard and son Randall Minyard and a great great-grandson Ezekiel. She was the only remaining sibling alive.
She is survived by two daughters, Marilynn Benton of Murfreesboro, TN and two grandsons, Stephen Benton and Jeffrey Benton of Murfreesboro and 5 great-grandchildren, Alysa and Tobi and Kate, Layla, and Noral all from TN.
Also survived by her other daughter, Lori and Jeff Earhart of Shawnee and Lou’s granddaughters, Courtney Guhl of Shawnee, Kassi Marquez and Kiersten Guhl of Moore, OK, two great-granddaughters, Khalli and Arayla and two great-grandsons, Jordan and Braxton all of Shawnee.
Mellissa Minyard and Michelle Van of Shawnee, daughters of Randall Minyard who preceded her in passing had three granddaughters Bailey, Brooklynn, and Faith of Shawnee; also 2 great-grandchildren, Elliana and Magnolia. Lou Ellen also had several great great-grandchildren.
No formal services will be held. Burial arrangements under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
