ENID, Okla. — Ronald Dale Minor, football player, husband, dad, teacher, coach, Grandpa and friend to numerous students, players and families, passed peacefully after a nine year battle with cancer.

Dale was born in New Martinsville, W.V., and was the 10th child of 11 brothers and sisters. His early education was spent in New Martinsville. By his sophomore year, his family had relocated to Louisville, Ohio, where Dale excelled in football, basketball and track. He made All-State in all three sports.

In 1964, Dale was recruited by Southwestern Oklahoma State University to play as a linebacker for the Bull Dogs. He was a determined, aggressive and an outstanding player. Under the leadership of Coach Delaporte, Dale is remembered as one of the legendary Bull Dogs’ finest players. Dale earned his bachelor of science in education as well as his master’s degree. He taught school for 35 years.

He and Nancy (Totten) were married in 1972.

Dale was always an avid University of Oklahoma fan. Their sons, Ryan and Damon were outstanding athletes for the University of Oklahoma. One of the highlights of his life was watching his boys play at OU and watching them play major league baseball for the Giants and Orioles organizations.

His hobbies were woodworking, fishing (especially going on trips to Canada), and reading western books.

Dale loved life and will be missed.

Dale is survived by his wife of 41 years, Nancy of the home; Ryan and his wife Allyson and daughter, Reagan of Salisbury, Md.; Damon and his wife Allison and sons, Jackson and Easton of Sedan, Kan.; three sisters, Brenda Snider (Jeff) of Malvern, Ohio; Tootie Miller (Dale) of New Lima, Ohio; Wilma Adams (Don), Eddyville, Ky.; and several nieces and nephews.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis Reed and Alberta (Castilow) Minor Anderson; two sisters, Norma Jean Sheets and Betty Ankrom; and five brothers, Kenneth, Charles, Bob, Pete and Donnie Minor.

Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, in the A.G. Creach Auditorium, Hammon, Okla. Service is under the direction of Matthews Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Edmond, Okla.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Richard Megli Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 279, Hammon, OK 73650.
