Thomas "Tommy" Miner
October 30, 1950 ~ December 5, 2018

Thomas "Tommy" Miner longtime Ponca City resident passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2018 in Oklahoma City with his loving family by his side. He was 68 years of age. He was born on October 30, 1950 in Watonga, OK to Virginia Sammons Miner.

Memorial services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, December 15, 2018 in the Ranch Drive Baptist Church with Pastor Bob Ryan officiating. Honorary casket bearers will be his Grandkids. Military honors are under the direction of Fort Sill Army Base. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers please make memorial contributions to the Marland Children's home.

Tommy grew up in the American Legion children's home and he attended the Ponca City School system and he was All State Wrestler his Junior and Senior year at PO High graduating in 1968. Upon graduating he joined the U.S. Army to serve his country during the Vietnam Conflict. He served 5 years then enlisted in the United States Coast Guard and served until 1977 when he was honorable discharged. During his military career he was awarded numerous awards and accommodations and in 1974 he received a purple heart. He met the love of his life Rhonda Miner and they were married December 27, 1977 in Canadian, Texas and they made their first home in Enid, OK then moving to Ponca City after 2 years. Tommy was an Electronics Tech working in communication and he retired due to ill health in 2000. Tommy enjoyed fishing, reading, drawing, painting and writing his memoirs. He also loved to tease his family and spend as much time as possible with his family.

Survivors include: wife of 40 years, Rhonda of the home; 3 sons; James Miner and wife Vicki of Blackwell, OK WILLIAM "Bill" Miner and wife Ashley of Marland, OK and Dakota Miner of Ponca City, OK 3 daughters; Tara Jacobs of Lawton, OK, Tommie Smith and husband Wesley of Ponca City, OK , Sarah McGugan and husband Tony of Edmond, OK 1 sister: Toni Martin and husband Fred of Ganns, OK 16 grandchildren; Zarek Miner, Dalton Miner, Jamie Miner, Breanna Miner, Bailey Miner, Will Miner, Bethany Miner, Landon Miner, Jared Jacobs, Joshua Jacobs, Naomi Tapp, Charles Thomas Smith, Rylie McGugan, Brody McGugan and Elise McGugan. Also, serving are several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister; Connie Cash, 1 brother; Floyd Miner and 1 infant grandson.
