Sammie Jean (Drummond) Mills
February 01, 1945 - January 09, 2017

Sammie Jean "Drummond" Mills was born February 1, 1945 to Samuel Dewey Drummond and Selma Doris "Hechler" Drummond in Ballinger, Texas and died January 9, 2017 in Hawley, Texas at the age of 71 years, 11 months and 8 days old.

The Drummond family moved to Miles, Texas shortly after Sammie was born and then they moved to El Paso, Texas in 1951.

Sammie Jean Drummond married the love of her life Lynwood (Lyn) Frazier Mills, Sr. on September 20, 1963. Sammie and Lyn made their home in El Paso, Texas. They had five children together. They lived in El Paso, Texas until 1976, when the family moved to Elk City, Oklahoma.

Sammie worked some outside the home in retail while they lived in El Paso, Texas. But mostly worked in the home, dedicated to her family. When the family moved to Elk City she went to work for Wal-Mart before the store was open for business. Sammie worked as a Department Manager, then an Assistant Manager. Years after she was an assistant manager, the owner of Wal-Mart, Sam Walton was touring the Elk City store and asked Sammie... Why she was not a manger yet? She was promoted to Manager shortly after Sam Walton's visit. The end of 1994 Sammie decided to retire from Wal-Mart.

Survivors include two daughters Sharon Mills Forrester and her husband, Greg of Elk City, OK, Brenda Mills of Abilene TX, three sons Lynwood F. Mills, Jr. of Abilene TX, Duane Mills and his wife, Julie of Elk City, OK, and Doug Mills and his wife, Angie of Elk City, OK. Nine grandchildren, Janna Mills, Sgt. Joe Mills, USMC, Amber Mills Lovelace, Justin Mills, Ashley Forrester, Coty Forrester, Riley Forrester, Ryan Mills and Benjamin Mills and eight great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Ruth Carter of El Paso, TX, LenaMae Ragsdale of San Angelo, TX, one brother Wayne Drummond of Abilene, TX and a host of other relatives and friends.

Sammie is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lynwood F. Mills Sr., two brothers William “Billy” Drummond, Marvin K. Drummond, two sisters Florene S. Tinney and Bertha Cravens.
