Maxine Miller of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Sunday afternoon, February 13, 2022, at her home at the age of 97 years.
Maxine Emogene Graham was born July 12, 1924, in Fairview, Oklahoma to Charley and Alta (Horn) Graham. Maxine grew up in western Major County, attending rural schools. She graduated from Cheyenne Valley High School, where she also met her husband, and they were married right after graduation on April 25, 1943. During the early years of marriage, they lived in Clovis, NM, Perryton, TX, Woodward and Fairview, OK. In 1958 the family moved to Blackwell, OK.
Maxine worked in the jr high cafeteria and then at the high school cafeteria as head cook and nutritionist for a total of 18 years and the Blackwell Hospital kitchen four years. Students still remember her for the delicious cinnamon rolls she made in high school.
She took training as an assistant nurse and sat with terminally ill patients. She was also an Ambassador and a Gray Lady. She sat at the First Baptist Church election pole from 1996 – 2014.
Maxine worked at Contact Point Ministries from 1972 – 1989 for 17 years as a trustee, bookkeeper, and treasurer. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was on various committees and was in charge of funeral dinners for 22 years. Maxine was a volunteer at the Red Cross, Blood Mobile, Blackwell Museum, and the Good Buy Shoppe.
She is survived by three daughters, Lois Diemer, Linda Miller, and Leneta Barber of Blackwell; grandson, David Diemer of Denver, CO; four great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Jordan, Joseph, and Sara; and three great-great-grandchildren, Rylee, Ellee and Isabella.
Maxine was preceded in death by an infant brother; her parents; brothers, James Graham, Billy Graham and Dwayne Graham; sisters, Bernice Wellborn, Alice Meeks and Verna Garner.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2022, in the Blackwell First United Methodist Church with Pastor Daniel Rickman officiating.
