Just after a final lunch bell rang on February 7, 2024, Billy D. Miller Sr. passed away after a 12-year battle with diabetes at the Homestead Center in Sherman, Texas. Billy was born in Caddo, Oklahoma, but spent most of his adult life teaching middle school in Tishomingo, Oklahoma. Married to his high school sweetheart, Charlene Trent Miller, for almost 65 years, Billy leaves behind a legacy of family, friends, and love. Billy earned his degree in Education from Southeastern University in Durant, Oklahoma and taught middle school for 32 years. Nothing made Billy happier than watching his students succeed and he will be forever remembered for driving the school bus.
Billy is preceded in death by his father, mother, brother, and sister, as well as his beloved daughter, Tracy.
Most commonly known to all as “Poppi”, he is survived by his wife, Charlene, his (2) children, Billy “Dean” Jr and Michelle Miller (Leavenworth, KS); and Tomie and Laura Miller (Atoka, Ok); (10) grandchildren, Trent, Danielle, Christopher, Christian, Kathyrn, Joe, Olivia, Grayson, Cheyenne, and Ryleigh, and (16) great-grandchildren, as well as (2) brothers-in-law, Clemmie and Joe Jerry Trent (Durant, OK), many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Not to be forgotten, a true American, and US Army veteran, Billy proudly served his country. He was extremely proud of his children’s military accomplishments. His greatest passions included fishing, hunting, gardening, and decorating the house for Christmas. There is not a body of water in Southeast Oklahoma that Billy has not dropped a fishing line! He was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge 91. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
A public memorial service to honor “Poppi” will be held on Saturday, 10:00 AM on February 17th, 2024, at the Brown’s Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma. All are invited to attend.
