The "Celebration of Life" for Dean Leroy Meyer is 2 p.m. Monday, March 20, 2017, at the First Christian Church of Cleo Springs, with Pastor Roy Wahlgren and Pastor Connie Schlarb officiating. The family is welcoming friends and loved ones 3-5 p.m. Sunday, March 19, 2017, for visitation at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home. As a final tribute to our "Forever Cowboy," you are encouraged to wear "America's Brightest Orange" to the Celebration.
Dean was born to John and Mary Meyer in Sentinel, Oct. 13, 1941, and went to be with the Lord at his home on Monday, March 13, 2017, in Cleo Springs. He graduated from Covington High School in 1959. He and Karan (Staerkel) were married on Dec. 23, 1961, in Enid, at University Place Christian Church. They each received their bachelor of science degree from Oklahoma State University in May of 1963, and moved to Aline, for their first teaching assignment. Dean taught vocational agriculture for nine years at Aline-Cleo High School, then joined Cleo State Bank in 1972, where he currently served as president, as well as serving the surrounding banking communities for 45 years. He and Karan are faithful members of the First Christian Church in Cleo Springs where he served as board chairman for many years. Dean also served as the regional treasurer for the Christian Church of Oklahoma, treasurer of Aline-Cleo Public Schools, and was a member and president of the Board of Education of Northwest Technology Center since 1978.
In 2009, Dean was honored by the Association of Career and Technology Education as the Board Member of the year. He achieved the standing of 32nd Degree Mason from the Oklahoma Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, and was also awarded Honorary State Farmer by Future Farmers of America in 1995. Dean and Karan are OSU Alumni life members, as well as members of the OSU Posse Club. They have enjoyed attending and supporting OSU men and women's basketball programs where they have made many dear friends. Their greatest joys are the many occasions to celebrate with family including the yearly end-of-summer trips to Oklahoma City, Thanksgivings in Branson, baseball, soccer, and volleyball games, graduations, and spending time with their children and grandchildren. He loved working with his hands, whether it was creating a family treasure out of wood, working down the hill in his man cave, sharing his talent and expertise with others, or being outdoors. Dean was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Karan, of the home; three children, son, Brian and wife Becky of Enid, daughter, Brenda and husband Randy of Broken Arrow, son, Brent and wife Leann of Broken Arrow; grandchildren, Rachel and Meleah Meyer of Enid, Braden Martin and wife Amanda of Tulsa, Madison and Mia Martin of Broken Arrow, Cassody, Holli and Karlee Meyer of Broken Arrow; and brother-in-law Richard Staerkel and wife Cindi of Florida; and a host of beloved friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to First Christian Church of Cleo Springs, or to the charity of your choice.
