Loretta Colleen (Pound) Mess was born February 3, 1932 in Van Buren, Arkansas to Leonard E Pound and Agnes E (Cantwell) Pound. She passed away Sunday, June 4, 2023 in Oklahoma City at the age of 91.
Loretta’s father was a machinist apprentice and her mother a homemaker. She grew up in Fort Smith, Arkansas and later in Lawton. She spent time in the Wichita Mountains on family outings and countless hours roller skating at Doe Doe Park. While working at the movie theatre in Lawton she met Charles Edward Mess following his discharge from the US Army.
Together they had 3 children, Dianna Kay Mess, Ted Edward Mess and Tammy Lynn Mess. Survivors include her children, Dianna and her husband Roger Nelson of Guthrie, Ted Mess and his wife Janine of Oklahoma City, and Tammy Poteet of Moore; 7 grandchildren, Bryan Nelson and wife Chrystal of Jones, Brad Nelson and wife Kelly of Bridge Creek, Jeremy Nelson of Guthrie, Brandon Mess and wife Amber of Mustang, Blake Johnson of Oklahoma City, Matthew Johnson of Oklahoma City, and Lauryn Poteet of Moore; 10 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren along with other family and friends.
Loretta made her living creating beautiful cakes as a decorator for many years until her retirement. Known as Colleen to all, anyone who knew her, knew she never met a stranger. She had a beautiful smile and loved to laugh. She loved getting dressed up and visiting with her friends. She loved cookbooks, cooking and getting together with her family on holidays.
A Celebration of her life will be held at a future date. Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
