Kathryn Francen Merkt

April 9, 1931 ~ February 16, 2009

Funeral services for Kathryn Francen Merkt of Columbia where held February 20th in the Greenlawn Funeral Home Chapel with interment in the Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Mrs. Merkt passed away on Monday, February 16th at the Lexington Medical Center.

She was born in Cement, OK, on April 9, 1931, the daughter of the late Carl and Jesse Francen of Anadarko.

She was the faithful and supportive wife of LTC Francis D. Merkt (Ret.) of 46 years and loving mother of Carl and Frank Merkt.

She was a valued thrift store volunteer at all of the duty stations where her husband was assigned and Fort Jackson inducted her into the Volunteer Hall of Fame for her 24 years of dedicated service.

Surviving are her husband, Francis, son Colonel Carl R. Merkt (Ret.) of Clarksville, TN and three grandchildren, Cynthia Thornton of Nashville, TN, Kristine Franks of Murfreesboro, TN, and Carl B. Merkt of Houston, TX, and one great-grandchild Brittany Kathryn Franks of Murfreesboro, TN.
