Daniel Wayne Merchant
February 3, 1951 ~ December 12, 2018

Daniel Wayne Merchant, 66, of Caney, KS, died Wed., Dec 12, 2018, in Bartlesville.

Daniel - or Dan as he was known - was born the son of Walter Lee and Cora (Day) Merchant on Feb. 3, 1952, in Coffeyville, Ks. He attended grade school in Angola, KS, and high school in Labette County, graduating in 1970. While skating at the Roller Dome in Coffeyville, with just a wink of the eye a 49-year love affair was fashioned. Dan united in marriage with Paula Grace Allison on June 10, 1973. They made their home first in Coffeyville for eight years, then moved to Caney to be closer to Paula's family. Dan was a faithful provider for his family. He held a regular job and also pursued his true passion for farming on his parent's farm in Labette County. He worked for Sherwin Williams until the plant closed, then as a mechanic with John Deere before settling into a 32-year career with the City of Caney, finally retiring in 2016.

Dan loved all types of racing: dirt track, tractor pulls and drag racing were his favorite. When the kids were young, they attended many races together as well as amusement parks. He was active in the boys' interests which included sports and helping them to build their first cars. He was known for the sweet corn planted in his garden every year. Together Dan and Paula enjoyed two-stepping. Once retired they went camping in their RV to local corps campgrounds and Arkansas. Every Sunday they visited the grandkids and enjoyed watching them play ball. Most of all Dan loved the Lord and was active in the churches they attended over the years.

Dan is survived by his loving wife of 45 years Paula; two sons, Brian Merchant and Roxanne of Owasso, and Daniel Merchant of Colton, CA; two brothers Joe Merchant and Pauly of Independence, and Walt Merchant of Coffeyville; sister Ann Caughron of Willis Point, TX; sister in law Ruth Merchant of Wichita; and four grandchildren, Cora and Luke Merchant, and Payton and Chastin Johnson. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Bud and Bob Merchant, sister Betty Holder and one grandson Kevin Lomax.

Dan's family will receive friends at the Davis Family Funeral Home – Dewey Chapel, 918-534-3030, 113 S. Osage (Hwy. 75), Dewey, on Friday, Dec. 21, from 6-8 p.m. Visitation will also be held on Friday from 10-8.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Sat., Dec. 22, at East Bartlesville Christian Church, with evangelist David Bycroft officiating. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery.

Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home – Dewey Chapel. Online condolences and remembrances may be shared at www.DavisFamilyFuneralHome.com.
