Sharon Kathleen “Wedelin” Melton passed away July 24, 2021, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma at the young age of 64. She was born on February 4, 1957, in Pratt, Kansas.
On February 24, 1996, Sharon was united in marriage with her beloved husband, Jim Melton. She earned her high school diploma in Independence, Kansas and later went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in Botany and in Biology at Florida State University. She worked her way through college as a polo groom in Boca Raton, Florida. After graduating college, she worked mainly as an environmental chemist. She has worked for Aptus, Trinity Analytical Labs, Sherry Labs, and then Green Country Testing before taking retirement. One of Sharon’s favorite hobbies was raising and showing Quarter Horses, she was a lifetime member of the American Quarter Horse Association. She also was a member of Oolagah United Methodist Church.
Sharon is preceded in death by Private First-Class James DeBruler, her aunt Nancy DeBruler, her stepsister Kathy Bertrand, and stepmother Merie Wedelin.
She is survived by her husband Jim Melton, her father Pete T Wedelin, her brother Pete E Wedelin, her sister Kelly Bradley and her husband Sam, her nephew Tyler Bradley, her step-sister Magel Taylor and her husband Doug, her step-children Eric and Svetlana Melton, and Judy and Eddy Coots, four grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Friday, July 30, 2021, at 2 PM at the Oolagah United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your local animal shelter and The Journey Home in remembrance of Sharon.
