Danny "Dan" K. Melton, 64, died Friday, November 5, 2021 at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City, due to complications from contracting COVID-19. He was born January 11, 1957 in Sherman, Texas, the youngest of three brothers: Don "Salty", David, and Dan, and the brother of Susan "Sue", the youngest and last-born of the children of Ray and Bernice Davis Melton.
Dan's love for nature and the outdoors began very early in his childhood. It grew into a passion that burned brightly throughout his life, leading him to become a skilled wildlife photographer and an accomplished hunter outdoorsman. He was an Oklahoma State University alumnus, graduating with a bachelor's in animal science. His distinguished career in the oil and gas industry as a drilling foreman spanned the better part of four decades, taking him to locations all over the world. Dan enjoyed that part of the job immensely, as he found adventure in new places and terrain his entire life.
Dan will be remembered as a gentle, kind, trustworthy, adventurous, loving man who brought joy and happiness to all he cared for, whose goodness and thoughtfulness showed through in his actions and deeds. One always knew where they stood with Dan and could count on him for any occasion. If anyone has ever gone to Heaven, Dan Melton did. A better man one has never met.
He is survived by his wife, Rhonda J. Melton; his siblings, Don "Salty", David and Susan; and two children, Jesse and Calen.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, November 12 at the Watts Memorial Chapel, Madill with Willis Choate, IV officiating.
