Willard A. McVay

Willard A. McVay

Willard A. McVay, longtime Cushing resident, died on Friday, January 12, 2007 at the age of 91 years.

The son of the late Arthur McVay and Susan L. Keeter McVay, Willard was born on August 7, 1915 in Vinita, OK and was reared and educated here in Cushing, attending Cushing High School, where he enjoyed the sport of wrestling, in which he excelled.

He was united in marriage to Ruth Leach on June 30, 1934 and to this union seven children were born.

Willard had worked as a car salesman for many years, retiring as sales manager for Forsee Chevrolet. Over the years he had received numerous awards and honors for salesman of the year.

He attended Cornerstone Ministries Church.

He loved, bred and raised horses and was a member of the American Arabian Horse Association; a member of the Cushing Riders Club; a sponsor of Cushing Horse Shows and a past member of the Lions Club. He also was a member of the Cushing Auxiliary Police and a member of the Payne county sheriff's auxiliary.

Willard loved gardening, fishing, his family and was an avid OU fan.

He drove a bus during World War II and transported German prisoners of war to camps in western Oklahoma.

Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Ruth McVay of the home; five daughters, Greta Wilson and her husband Jesse of Cushing, Priscilla Butcher and her husband Loyd of Ozark, MO., Sarah Willis and her husband Bob of Edmond, Vickie Haddock of Broken Arrow and Mary Walker and her husband Wendall of Coweta; two sons, W.A. "Dub" McVay and his wife Cathy of Luther and Richard "Dick" McVay and his wife Janice of Perry; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, one sister and one son-in-law.

Willard�s family will celebrate his life in a private memorial service.
