Don Eldon McOsker passed away in his sleep on Friday, July 28, 2023. He left a legacy of 93 years of love. Don was born at the start of the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression. in Alva, Oklahoma, April 19, 1930. He graduated from Alva High School in the spring of 1948, and in December of that year married his high school sweetheart, Leota McOsker. They were married for 61 years until Leota's death in 2009.
Don was truly blessed when he found a second love with Helen Jean Brackman. They were married in 2011 when Don was 81 and Jean 89. They celebrated their 12th anniversary this past spring.
In 1956, Don received his PhD in Biochemistry from Cornell University with a thesis topic of "The Effect of Vitamin B12 Deficiency on Choline Metabolism." His career began in Cincinnati, Ohio, when he accepted a job with Procter & Gamble. In 1977, Don accepted the position as VP of Research & Development for Armour & Company, and in 1998, started North Cliff Consultants, a consumer and clinical research testing company. After he retired in 2005, Don enjoyed being a member of the Rose Society and spent his time cultivating over 100 long stem rose bushes which he planted at his home and at the business properties.
Don and Leota had three sons, Charles (Jody), Paul (Liz), and John, as well as eight grandchildren, Corey (Pat) Neiman, Laura (Dayne) Friedhoff, Michael (Molly) McOsker, Dale (Sarah) McOsker, Emily McOsker, Johannes (Anna) Wittmar, and Katrin (Lena) Karczewski, and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Don was a caring person, generous and loving. He supported many organizations in honor of his youngest son with disabilities. He generously supported All Saints Episcopal Church in Pleasant Ridge. He was always willing to listen and lend support, especially to those who helped care for him in his final years at Evergreen Senior Living. Don was named a Distinguished Goldbug in 2016 in recognition of the scholarship programs he endowed at Alva High School and he loved to follow the progress of the students who were recipients of the awards. His loving, caring spirit will be missed by many people.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 20, 2023, at All Saints Episcopal Church, Pleasant Ridge, Ohio, at 12:30 p.m. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Alva Goldbug Education Foundation (AGEF-CFO), http://www.alvagoldbugeducationfoundation.com or 418 Flynn Street, Alva OK 73717, in memory of Don McOsker.
