Verna Mae (Campbell) McNeely
October 15, 1931 ~ March 17, 2009

Services for Verna Mae McNeely, 77, of the Enville community, were held at 10 a.m., Friday, March 20 in the Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home Chapel, Marietta, with Bro. Cole Tidwell officiating. Interment followed at 2 p.m., Saturday in the Friona Cemetery, Friona, Texas.

Born October 15, 1931 in Union Hill, Johnston County, the daughter of Isam and Vina Victoria Tudor Campbell, she died Tuesday, March 17, 2009, in Mercy Health Love County Hospital, Marietta.

Mrs. McNeely moved to the Enville community as a very young child. She and James F. McNeely wee married December 24, 1947 in Gainesville, Texas, and he preceded her in death on February 5, 2008. After living in Friona for many years and raising their eight children, the couple returned to Love County in 1988. They attended the Lebanon Church of Christ where Mrs. McNeely was known for her sweet smile and strong singing voice.

Survivors include six sons and daughters-in-law, Reggie and Brenda McNeely of Weatherford, Texas, Roger and Cindy McNeely of Needville, Texas, Sammy and Sue McNeely of Cleveland, Texas, Paul and Kathy McNeely of Splendora, Texas, Justin and Deloris McNeely of Hereford, Texas, and Joseph and Deanna McNeely of Lone Grove; two daughters and sons-in-law, Vernetta and J.T. Eddins of Splendora and Linda and Brian Evans of Friona; 27 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Wayne and Anna Campbell of Pauls Valley and Jack and Pearl Campbell of Marietta; a sister, Ruby Stanley of the Greenville community; and three sisters-in-law, Arlene Campbell of Marietta, Onema Campbell of Overbrook and Ledgia Campbell of Marietta.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Jeremy McNeely; three brothers, Willie Campbell, Holly Campbell and Graham Campbell; and a brother-in-law, Alfred Stanley.

Pallbearers were Clancy Hallum, Tim Campbell, Charles Campbell, Rayford Hallum, Terry Stanley and Jason Eddins.

The family wishes to extend their thanks and grateful appreciation to the doctors and hospital staff of Ardmore and Marietta, especially the nurses of 3 West, and the Mercy House of Ardmore. The loving care that was given to Mom and all the family was beyond reproach.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mercy House of Ardmore in care of the funeral home.
