Rufus Dwight McLaughlin, 77, of Sherman, Texas passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at Texoma Medical Center, Denison, Texas.
Born June 2, 1943 in Gainesville, Texas, he was the son of Willis Leroy “Bear” and Mable Marie Buchanan McLaughlin.
Dwight was a graduate of the Thackerville High School Class of 1961. He
served in the U.S. Army for two years. He played high school basketball and
was a very avid fan of his daughter, Jennifer McLaughlin and his son, Grady
McLaughlin, who both played high school basketball at Slidell, Texas. He
never missed one of their games no matter if they played at home or away
from home. He was also an avid van (fan) of the Oklahoma Sooners and the
Dallas Mavericks.
Dwight married Marsha Norris on February 26, 1992 in Slidell. They lived
in Sherman at the time of his death.
Preceding him in death were his parents and brother, Gregory Keith “Greg”
McLaughlin.
Survivors include his wife, Marsha McLaughlin, of the home; daughter,
Jennifer McLaughlin and spouse of Corinth, Texas, son, Grady McLaughlin and
fiancée of Denton, Texas, daughter, Alee McKinney and spouse of Sherman, and
son, Shane Jeter and spouse of Gainesville; brothers, Leroy McLaughlin and
spouse of Wynnewood and Gary McLaughlin and spouse of Valley View, Texas;
sisters, Brenda Dean and spouse of Marietta, Cindy Green of Burneyville; and
Debra Dedek and spouse of Marietta; grandsons, Grayden McLaughlin, Kobe
McLaughlin, Sterling McLaughlin and Austin Jeter; granddaughters, Wren
McKinney, Brooke McKinney and Chloe Jeter; cousin, Junior McLaughlin and
spouse of Thackerville; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and
nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
No services will be planned which was Dwight’s request. His family will
have a private memorial for him at a later date.
