Tommy Charles McKown

Tommy Charles McKown
November 18, 1930 ~ June 28, 2016

Tommy Charles McKown was born in Maud, Oklahoma on November 18, 1930 and peacefully passed away at the age of 85 on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 while surrounded by family and loved ones. Tommy was a graduate of Maud High School, where he played football.

After graduation, he enlisted in the Navy and was stationed in Newport, Rhode Island. He was aboard the USS Vulcan from 1948-52.

After being honorably discharged, Tommy married Belva Jean Morris and together they raised two children, Debbie and Mark.

In 1987, he joined lives with Sharon Edwards and they were together until she passed away in 2009. Tommy was a pioneer in the heating and air industry for over 40 years. He was also an avid OU football fan and squirrel hunter. Tommy was a Mason and a friend to Bill W., serving as a mentor for many over the years. Almost every day in his later life, you could find Tommy with his morning coffee bunch and Sam, his devoted dog. Tommys most cherished roles were those he played in his own family, as a son, brother, husband, life partner, uncle, loving dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa!

Preceding Tommy in death were his mother, Ola, father, Floyd 'Chub' McKown, his brothers, Queenie, Omer, Kenneth, and Jerry; his ex-wife, Belva, and his life partner, Sharon. Tommy is survived by his brother, Buck; daughter, Debbie McKown Johnson and her husband Mark of New Smyrna Beach, Florida; his son, Mark McKown and his wife Taryn of Mustang. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kevin Johnson and ex-wife Jackie and their children Grant and Kate of Oklahoma City; Melanie Castillo and her husband Paul and their children Bailee and Connor of Sanford, Florida; Sharon's children, Barry Edwards and wife Jennifer and their son Jacob of Minnesota, Ellen Lee and her husband Roger and her children Tyler and Shanin of Oklahoma City; and numerous loved ones.

Tommy's generosity, kindness and humor earned him many loyal friends. He left his friends and family with a lifetime of memories and will be dearly missed. The memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at Lake View Park Church of the Nazarene, located at 3500 NW 50th Street, OKC.

"God, please grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference."
