Patricia (Patty) Jean Hassenfratz was born May 30, 1927 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Charles Andrew (C.A.) Hassenfratz and Bertha Elizabeth Holt Hassenfratz. When Patty was very young, the family moved to Ponca City, Oklahoma where she grew up and graduated from Ponca City High School in 1945.
She immediately began working at Continental Oil Company in Ponca City as a teletype operator. In 1948 Patty and Grant McKnight were married and moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma where he was an engineer with Phillips Petroleum Company. Patty also worked for Phillips until the couple was transferred to Austin, Texas in 1950. In 1951 they were transferred to Houston, Texas where they lived until 1971. During their time in Houston, Patty was very active as a Girl Scout Leader and member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church. For the next few years Patty moved with Grant as he was transferred to St. Lewis, Chicago, Austin, Ponca City, and finally back to Bartlesville. In 1975 they built a house at 905 Sandstone Dr. which was their final home.
During their time in Bartlesville, Patty volunteered at Jane Phillips Hospital and cooked for Meals on Wheels for many years. She was an active member of St. John's Catholic Church and was also a member of a bowling league, a bridge club, a sewing club, a Bible study group, and she and Grant were also members of a square dance group for a few years. They traveled extensively to every state in the United States as well as most of Canada and Western Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Patty was an amazing cook and domestic engineer and many have commented on what a sweet, kind person she always was.
Patty began showing signs of dementia in 2006 and most of her social and volunteer activities ceased. Grant cared for Patty at home with the help of Daybreak and Visiting Angels as long as possible and then she resided at Heritage Villa. Through the kindness of Don and Ann Bates, Grant visited Patty daily. When Grant passed away on June 15, 2016 Patty's daughters moved her to Magnolia Court Memory Care in Nacogdoches, Texas where they could visit her daily.
Patty passed away there on November 28, 2016.
Even though we started losing her years ago, her family will hold on to the memories of what a sweet, kind, compassionate, loving, playful, and talented lady Patty was. She was very particular about her appearance and the tidiness of her home and loved to sew, cook and sing. She adored her grandchildren who felt the same about her. Almost to the end she was smiling and making funny faces at her family and care givers.
Patty is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Gail and Michael Miller and Linda and Steve Green all of Nacogdoches, Texas, her grandchildren Grant Green and wife Monica of Houston, Ryan Patterson and wife Sarah of Austin, and Becca Green Vose and husband Craig of Nacogdoches. Also surviving are her great grand children Haylee and Kylee Vose of Nacogdoches, Harper and Lorelei Green of Houston, and Ellis Patterson of Austin. Patty is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law Charles and Jo Hassenfratz of Amarillo, Texas and nephews Steve Hall and wife Patricia of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Steve Hassenfratz and wife Tracy of Prosper, Texas, and Gary Hassenfratz and wife Kathleen of Austin, Texas.
Laird Funeral Home in Nacogdoches was in charge of arrangements.
