Donald Lee McKay

Donald Lee McKay
May 06, 1938 ~ February 19, 2020

Donald (Don) Lee McKay, age 81, of Blanchard, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 19, 2020. He was surrounded by his family; he left this earth to be with his Jesus and to join those who went on before him.

Don was born on May 6, 1938 in Paden, OK to William and Grace McKay. He graduated from Paden Highschool in 1956. He attended 2 years at OSU, worked at Wilson Foods in OKC and owned a Champlin Station in Newcastle in the 1970’s. He also held other jobs, however, he was known the most for construction work where he was self-employed and built many structures in the Newcastle Community as well as remodels on homes.

Don moved his family to Newcastle in 1966 where he lived with his wife and raised his 3 children. He was a big supporter of AA and helped to get the Newcastle Big Book Group started in the mid 1980’s where he shared his love, knowledge and sponsored so many people, many whom became family to him. He was still active in AA up until the last several months where he was not able to attend meetings due to his health. He was a loving husband, a wonderful dad who took great care of his family, the best papa to his grandchildren, many of them whom to he was more of the father figure in their lives. He was the most loving Great-Papa to his 2 great granddaughters who lit up his world. He was a wonderful friend to many and a very loving, kind and generous man. He touched many lives… not just his family’s.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, 1 sister, his daughter-n-law Kris Anna McKay and his grandson Chris McKay.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Valera, of the home; 1 son: Russell McKay; 2 daughters: Vanessa McKay; Shelly Murdock and husband, Mark; 4 grandchildren: Sebastian Drake Rojas; Shandelle McKay and fiancé Danial Vandaveer; Falon McKay and Anna McKay; 2 great granddaughters Peyton Vandaveer and Ryleigh Vandaveer; 2 brothers, 2 sisters and their families as well as many other family members and friends.

Don had so much Faith in God’s Miracles and Grace, he was not only a wonderful family man, he was an inspiration to so many. He will be missed by all.

A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at Snow Hill Baptist Church in Tuttle, OK. There will be a meal served before the service at 12:00 P.M. for anyone who would like to attend and visit with the family. We want to thank everyone for the love and support you have shown during this time.
